Physical therapy will begin with an initial evaluation that will be utilized to help understanding your situation and next best steps to progress you towards your goals. We will have an in-depth discussion of your injury history, training, and current problem limiting your training. Take you through a series of physical performance tests to understand how you move and where your point of entry may be for rehab and/or training. Perform a gait analysis when appropriate (must have accessible treadmill for virtual). Educate you on what we believe to be going on and advise on the best course of action for you to resume running and/or training. Follow ups and what we anticipate it will take to achieve your goals will also be discussed. A summary email of the session and exercises to work on prior to first follow up will be provided within 1-2days.

In most cases, follow up sessions are every 2-4 weeks. They consist of reviewing what was discussed in previous session, update on how things are progressing, adjustments to training/exercises as indicated, and a summary email with the updated program will be sent out.

Here at RunMental we have worked with many patients and clients; watching, analyzing, and adjusting countless gait patterns as indicated. If you feel something is off with your running or have been told your gait is a contributing reason to your injuries, a formal in depth analysis by a running specialist may be just the thing to get you moving in the right direction.

We utilize some of the latest tech to provide us lab grade 3D-analysis using the Runeasi system. This helps us objectify and track some of your running metrics that aren’t visible to the naked eye in a valid and reliable manner with years of testing and research behind it, which you can see here.

Here is what we'll assess with this 90min analysis:

Movement quality, Strength, and Power through run specific tests

Impact magnitude- How much impact reaches your center of mass after contact with the ground? Higher impact values increases your total running load over the same time or distance.

Impact Duration- How well do you absorb the impact through your legs after you make contact with the ground? A longer impact duration is linked to a softer and better coordinated landing.

Dynamic instability- How much energy is wasted that is not contributing to forward propulsion due to lower pelvic movement, coordination, and control. This is linked to running efficiency and injury risk due to extra strain and compensation of stabilizing muscles.

Contextual factors- Cadence and ground contact time are parameters that can be used to optimize running technique.

With the above insight, which is ultimately a reflection to how well you are managing the forces of running, we can formulate a plan consisting of exercises to not only improve these metrics, but decrease injury risk and increase performance.

As a passionate athletic trainer and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), I am excited to utilize my training to specialize in endurance athletes. With a focus on delivering high-quality treatment, I am dedicated to helping runners, triathletes, and active individuals achieve their full potential.

My professional journey is complemented by my personal experience as an athlete. I have completed three marathons and an Ironman triathlon, and I was a competitive swimmer during my college years at SUNY Brockport. Throughout my time as an athlete, I dealt with several injuries that limited my ability to compete at a high level. I understand the frustrations and mental and physical strain resulting from sitting out of an activity you love. My goal is to help you return to your highest level of function as an athlete as quickly and safely as possible.

In addition to my practical experience, I am currently preparing for the Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) certification exam to further deepen my expertise in sports-focused physical therapy. At Run Mental, I am committed to providing personalized care that enhances performance, prevents injuries, and supports a speedy recovery.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking—having completed two 14ers so far—fishing, and spending quality time with my fiancée, Hope, and our Corgi, Benji. I look forward to working with you and utilizing my background and skills to help you reach your athletic goals and perform at your best.

Growing up, I played a multitude of sports (soccer, basketball, baseball, football). Conditioning was always my favorite part of practice, maybe because it was the part I seemed to excel at. Perhaps, this was a sign that the endurance world was more of my calling. Who knows? It wasn’t until high school that I found and fell in love with distance running after joining the cross country team my sophmore year. I continued my running career by walking-on to a small, private D2 cross country and track team in St. Louis where I also went to PT school.

(Un)Fortunately, I had quite a bit of time away from running throughout high school and college due to injuries and burnout. I didn’t know it then, but it would be the catalyst that would drive me to specialize in managing runners. These experiences provided me some fond memories and the best friendships, but I also know first hand the heartache, frustration, and even depression it can also create when things aren’t going well. I wish to help all the runners I work with be able to obtain their own epic stories and amazing life experiences running can provide while minimizing the negative ones to the best of my ability. I know the decision of who to work with for rehab or performance is not an easy one so I would be honored if you chose to put your trust in me to aid in supporting your running goals.

In my free time, I enjoy exploring different training/movement, spending time with my 2 dogs and wife, backpacking, and look to continue exploring the beautiful state of Colorado.
